Regina HistoryRegina started as a town named "Pile of Bones" in 1882 of June. The settlement started to grew rapidly because of its flat and fertile land. Despite the weather being harsh in winter and hot in summer, Pile of Bones slowly grew bigger and bigger.
In the late 1882, the name "Pile of Bones" wasn't a good town name, they named it Regina in the honor of queen Victoria. Regina is Latin means queen. In 1883, Regina became the capital of North west territories. North west territories consisted of owning all parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan. By 1903, Regina became a city instead of a town. It was due to a population increase. In 1905, Saskatchewan became a separate province and it's popularity attracted immigrants to settle in Regina. In 1920s, Regina's immigration slowed downed. In 1930, the crash of the stock market crashed north american economy, leading the depression. More than 3700 people was jobless. In the late 1930s, Regina was used as a place to create equipment for WW2. After WW2, Regina started to prosper. An oil pipeline was created to connect Regina to the oil fields in Alberta. Then the royal Saskatchewan museum was built. By the early 1960s, Regina was growing about 4,500 people every year. New buildings were build in Regina such as churches, schools and hospitals. Downtown Regina was built in the 1970s, using towering bank buildings, hotel offices and shopping malls/centres. In the 1980s and 1990s, Regina continued to grow, prosper and change during the years. They started to invest in a water treatment plan to treat water for Regina. Now moving into a new millennium, Regina started a "I Love Regina" campaign to celebrate Regina's achievements. Regina started investing on technology, enhanced infrastructure and construction to enhance the infrastructure. Now Regina is a urban city, attracting immigrants of coming to the new queen city. In summer, you can canoe, row or windsurf on Wascana lake. You can also go for jogs on Devonion pathway, that goes around the city. Therefore, Regina used to be a town with little in it, now it is a urbanized city, attracting people around the world. Would I live in Regina? |
If I had to live in Regina, I would because of its popularity, low property cost compared to other cities and its recreation. Regina is starting to become more and more popular, making the city prosper and keep upgrading itself to attract even more people, making it good for the residents. It means Regina will start investing more into the city's recreation.
The second reason why I would live in Regina is its costs. Regina is a big city and I, myself would like to live in a city. Comparing Regina to Toronto, to buy an apartment in the city, you averagely pay $7167 per square meter, when in Regina, it costs $3776 per square meter. despite Toronto more popular and more advanced, I rather live in Regina for the costs.
The last reason why I would live in Regina is the recreation. Some of the culture is better in Regina than in Toronto in my opinion. I like the idea of "I love Regina" campaign to increase happiness of the city. Lastly, those are some of the 3 reasons why I would live in Regina.
